Editorial standards
Sourcing
Every factual claim on this site falls into one of four categories, and we label which:
- Standard or code — cited to the specific document and section (ADA Standards, IBC, NFPA 101, OSHA 1910). We link to the primary source, never to someone’s summary of it.
- Manufacturer specification — attributed to the manufacturer and dated, because specs change. We say “as published by X in 2026,” not “slatwall holds Y.”
- Measured or tested by us — we say what we measured, how, and with what. Photos where relevant.
- Practitioner estimate — attributed to a named person with their role and market, given as a range.
If we can’t put a claim in one of those four boxes, we don’t publish it.
Cost data
Cost figures are published as ranges, dated, with the market and assumptions stated (square footage, finish level, region, year). Construction and fixture pricing moves. A cost figure without a date is worthless, so ours always carries one, and we re-review cost pages annually.
Review cycle
Every article shows a published date and a last-reviewed date. Spec and compliance content is reviewed every 12 months or when the underlying standard changes, whichever comes first. Cost content is reviewed every 12 months.
AI use
We use AI tools to research, outline and draft. Every published piece is edited, fact-checked and signed off by a named human editor who is accountable for it. We do not publish machine output unreviewed, and the byline on a piece is the person responsible for its accuracy.
Commercial relationships
Store Floor is an independent publication. We are not owned by a fixture manufacturer, supplier or retailer.
We do have, and may in future have, commercial relationships with companies we write about — including consulting relationships, affiliate arrangements and advertising. Where such a relationship exists at the time of publication, we disclose it at the top of the article in question.
Our recommendations are not for sale. No vendor has paid for placement, ranking, inclusion or a favourable review in anything published here. We name products we think are a bad buy, and we name them regardless of who sells them.
Vendor mentions are earned, not scheduled. Early coverage focuses on methods, costs, codes and templates. Named suppliers appear only when the piece genuinely requires naming options — and never as a substitute for useful primary information.
Affiliate links
Where we use affiliate links they are marked. Affiliate status never affects whether a product is included or how it’s ranked, and we do not accept affiliate arrangements that require pre-approval of what we write.
Corrections
We correct errors in place and note the correction at the foot of the article with the date. Substantive corrections are also noted in the newsletter. Email the editor to report one.
Right of reply
Any company named critically here can respond, and we’ll publish the response alongside the original if it’s substantive.
